Michael Tippett: "Symphony No. 4" (1977) Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Sir Georg Solti. Tippett's Fourth Symphony portrays the cycle of life, beginning with the dramatic violence of birth, with it's first breath, and ending with the fading of life and the final cessation of breath.

I knew Michael and was proud to play for him in the LSSO for many years. Great man and fine musician. Never even heard of Norman Lebrecht so who cares what he says.

Norman Lebrecht says this music is rubbish, as a Christian I have to still love him and turn the other cheek. As a musician......well what do you think?

Sheer genius, thank you so much Sir Michael for showing us the richness that
can be achieved far greater than we could ever imagine.this composer has been much misunderstood and sidelined.nevertheless, his legacy is one that we should be willing to reconsider. There is great treasure in his portfolio of work. Challenging, yes, dissmissable,NO!
