My Dearest Ali Akbar, how are you?
how much I miss you; you have no clue.
To meet you again is a prayer I daily seek,
Sitting by the door - waiting for your arrival, week after week.
When will this parting ever end?
is this the tradition of being a friend?
You don't know how much I yearn to see you brother...
bygone, are those days of smiles and laughter.
Sometimes I feel you've forgotten me
no letter, no messages - you've sent lately.
My heart aches brother - surely you know what a sister's heart is like;
Send me a message, Oh Prophet's look-alike!
Tears flow down my praying cloak,
my whispers are always, "Ya Rabbi! Why am I left in this town?"
Tell me about my cousins Qasim and Abdullah,
Aunts Zaynab, Kulthum and my darling Sakina.
I pray that everyone is keeping well ...
about all the occurences, please do tell.
When you recieve this letter from my Messenger,
give my salaams to all - especially to Father.
Please brother, tell me,
has Ali Asghar grown older than what I had earlier seen?
Kiss him on his rosy cheeks,
and give him my love.
Okay then I'll give this letter an ending;
though doing this, for me is heart rending...
