RAJDHANI EXPRESS
(Hang Upside Down)

Music and Guitar: John Gillard
Hang: Robin Gillard
Drums and percussion: David Halasz
Filmed on the 15th of January 2004 while travelling from New Dehli to Mumbia (India)
Recorded 2009
Editing: Felix Fritz and Robin Gillard 2011

I went to New Delhi (India) to attend the first "Peoples World Water Forum"
12,13,14 of January 2004 as a member of "ATTAC Vorarlberg" (Austria).
It was officially launched with a program for international collaboration and an
action "to stop the corporate theft of the world's water".
The path breaking event was co-hosted by Vandana Shiva's Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Ecology (RFSTE) and the Water Workers Alliance in India and the Polaris Institute along with other Canadian organizations.
On the 14th we left New Delhi for Mumbai on the Rajdhani Express and arrived in Mumbai on the 15th twelve hours late. But what a trip, they fed us all the way and nobody seemed to worry about the lost time at all.
The first Asian "World Social Forum" was held from the 16th to the 21st January 2004 in Mumbai. It was a great experience coming face to face with so many active people from all the continents.
There I played some of my songs in a songwriters' workshop and was later asked to contribute three songs (Facts About Gats / With A Little Bit Of Gladness / Don't Let The System Win) for a collaboration CD "ART IN RESISTANCE -- RESISTANCE IN ART" published by "Kunstnere for fred"( Artist for Peace) Danish PAND International.
We presented the CD a year later at the Brazilian World Social Forum in Porto Alegre 2005.

  • Beautiful video. I imagine the hangist sitting there in an open boxcar playing along to the sights, smells, sounds, and feel of the moment.

  • Nothing like the sound of the hang!

  • Nice!!! Great videos and even nicer music! Love it!
