I read the abstract, that's simply a collection of conclusions. I'm sorry if I don't jump into believing it without reading all of it to see how reached those conclusions, how the data was gathered, how many ppl participated, who peer-reviewed it, etc. Btw, if the conclusions are right they would not contradict anything I said here, they would make me re-consider the video I made on feminism and the pay gap last year. Again, HERE you are arguing against a position I don't hold

Lol I just saw you are BE boyfriend & your comment makes a lot more sense now :D So let me spell it out:

I (me) don't believe that trans ppl are doing any damage to the red fems goals/ideology.

THEY (the red fems) believe that, and have been expressing it clearly in a series of trans-phobic comments, for months.

My comment here was taking an ironic jab at THEIR claims.

You can choose to understand this, or continue the "lalala zomgits be bad lalala" game.

  • @MrMcOven It must be a regional thing. Where I live radfems are a small but vocal minority.

Trust me -- when 30% of the American female populace identifies as feminist, there really aren't THAT many radfems proportionally.

  • @RichardRoy2 Nearly every decent trans-man or trans-woman respects the ideologies of those who prefer to identify as neither gender or on a sliding scale. Such subjects are topics for debate, maybe, but not for passing judgment on other people's identities.

  • Kudos. Easily one of the best vids I've seen covering a VERY contentious issue. My two cents on the whole topic:

WBW only events ARE a reasonable safe haven for WBW who have been victimized by patriarchy. Any feminist leader who chooses to solely make available and attend these events, however, is an obvious transphobe. Furthermore, anyone who seeks to de-legitimize the very identity and reality of transgendered people is a disgustingly hateful person.

  • I see a lot of posts here & am saddened by the dancing around. Transsexuals face a hard path, a journey to understanding & accepting one's self, and evolving to become what you know you are, constantly swimming upstream against hatred & bias, in fear for their safety, with the potential loss of friends, family and career. with no legal protection whatsoever. trans people should be supported & loved, & not reviled. just research the suicide rates & you'll inow the seriousness of it.

  • I too am upset by the attack on transgendered people coming from (some) feminists. Do transgendered people not have difficult enough lives? Do they really require more condemnation and judgment in order (presumably) to "make them ok"???? Does it not go without saying that any time feminists are on the same side as fundamentalist religious conservatives, it's time to re-examine their views?

  • @reddragonready

No woman can say how any other woman feels. How do you know you feel like a woman when you can't know how any other woman feels? You might be at one side of a very diverse spectrum. How about a woman who grew up in say, an Afgani tribal culture? Would she feel like you?

  • Thank you for your humane and considered video. In the 70's we used to say "The personal is political" However, many radical feminists seek to objectify the transsexual body to an abstraction. They seek to take away the humanity of the transsexual person and thus legitimate their treatment as less than human. There are many historical precedents for this. We should learn from history.

  • Thank you SOOOO much for your erudite post. I hope your thoughts and reasoning become pervasive among feminists of all stripes.

    Peace and respect,

    Cynthia

In reality, you are talking two different medical operations. A penectomy (removal of the penis) and an orchiestomy (castration). Considering that SRS consists of the latter, most of the former, and then further involves extensive genital reconstruction, it is simply not accurate to make the example that you just did about men having their bits cut off. Some transsexuals are working our asses off to bring the meaning back to sex, so do respect us in return if you would.

  • @Hexydezimal In popular culture castration can mean cutting off the penis, testicles or both. In either case, the term is not used much any more and people now call such mutilation "sex change". If a man gets his bits cut off in an attack it's a "sex change". Change to what? Popular culture is disrespectful.

Anyway, I understand what you are saying. What we choose to do with our bodies is our own journey and has it's own personal meaning. What I hate is the sterotypical.
