Ford 427 SOHC engine was completely different from the Ford 428 CJ engine. I don't know about any True Shelby Cobra's comng with the 428 but there is not a whole lot of similarity between these engines.

@Laxpowertoo Not to sound like a know it all, but it was documented that the Shelby Cobras did in fact come off the line with 428 engines. Please show me the source of your information. I could be wrong.

The AC 428 was the Frua bodied variant base on an extended cobra chassis.
428 was just a model designation. The base engine was the same big block 427.
