  • Right now it couldn't. At some point in the future things will have to change. I believe that the coal industry has ruled the state in such a way that no other industry has been able to take root or survive. Plus, we didn't know many years ago that we'd have to choose between having coal or having the mountains. I have felt romantic about coal in the past but it is a different world now. We have to adapt and overcome. We can do it.

  • Of course you are entitled to your opinion. I just don't think that you represent mainstream WV. If we stop mining coal WV will have no major industry. WV's economy cannot survive without coal.

  • I don't think so. Most West Virginians oppose mountain top removal coal mining; that's the way they'll mine from now on. My dad is a retired miner, my brother a miner now, and my stepbrother a federal mine inspector. I think I am more than entitled to my opinion. The best thing that will ever happen, that is a dreadful thing to say.

  • Coal is the best thing that has ever happened to WV. The best thing that will ever happen. America will finally realize that clean coal technology is the best solution to BOTH energy independence and green house gas emmisions.

I live in WV and I have never heard your view point. Coal mining defines WV; you can't take that away. I am sad you feel that way. You are misrepresenting WV.

  • The Rep is correct in his comments -

  • sick and wrong it is.

  • ooo they destroy whole mountains. Dude I am from Oklahoma, and in the Northeast towns are constantly collapsing because of all of the coal mining. Then you have some towns who can't even drink their fuckingg tap water. I live in Oklahoma City which is in the center, and most of the coal is used to power that city, Tulsa, Stillwater, and Lawton. Most other towns have to rely on propane for electricity.

  • Sure you want to use the coal. You don't live in a state with the oldest mountains in the world, the foundation of your home isn't cracked, and your water isn't red or black from perpetual blasting off mountain tops. If I lived in Kansas I'd want some W.V. native to do all the work too. You might change your tune if you learned a little about the true cost of getting coal out of the earth. They don't dig it out like they did in the good old days.
