This model of vertical axis wind turbine is going to go up in a site that we are currently developing
that will be Green certified. We are aiming for a gold rating by using 2 vertical axis turbines that produce 10KWh a piece that will be connected to the grid and give everyone in the community a 25%-30% reduction on there electric bill. The homes will have solar powered heating and cooling systems as well as solar powered water heaters. the homes also utilize water saving systems that feed used laundry water into the toilets to conserve water. the homes them selves are called Natural Element Homes which use a hybrid building system that is far more energy conservitive and aesthetically natural apearing than conventional homes.
I think there are great applications for this design. What I question is the need to make the "tines" or "blades" out of metal. If recycled material, like laundry soap bottle were used, would the cost gow down? Further, I am working on a business plan to set these up in a hedge-row configuration along farm and ranch land for areas in Western Minnesota, North and South Dakota. Additional revenue for farmers who can apply for the federal tax credits. Of course, if these can be mass produced?

I suppose your right. each person(from the turbine aspect anyway)is only looking at about $2,000 a piece... which will pay for itself in about 3-4 years. The turbines have a 30 year warranty. I believe most potential homeowners will likely fall in love with there homes and there community, and stay plenty long enough to reap years worth of rewards.

one will be mounted on top of a old grain silo with a roof system that will help channel more wind to the turbine. the other will be on a pillar near the river, the site lies next to a river. they produce 10 KWh a piece. they cost $60,000 a piece before install. ROI timeline was not a main concern of ours... the earths current state is however.
