  • To be honest, the performance was just wonderful!!!

    BRAVO!!!!

  • this is so nice to see, especially after seeing the mostly-male vienna philharmonic play an equally attractive performance.

i think it's really a shame the the VPO is stuck in the past, trying to maintain that 'genuine sound of european males' (directly quoting a VPO musician). here we see a beautiful performance by a mostly-female, young orchestra. GOOD.

  • These musicians are excellent and experienced. They've no doubt played this symphony at least a dozen times in their careers as orchestral musicians, if not more. I like that the conductor isn't going out of his way to overly "interpret" the piece. For Brahms, just get out of the way and let the musicians play. For this, they just want a decent downbeat and clear tempo changes. He obviously did a good job getting all this straight in rehearsal. Well done!

  • @peacelovebassoon0107 I think some misconstrued your interesting comments. But don't be discouraged---this is the new wave and includes more women (and minorities) who have been denied seats in major orchestras in the past. no longer. this is the new 'face' of classical music. Refreshing.

  • such a fresh, passionate performance--and young. the future of classical music? (ie Dudemel)--yes I think so.

  • @Penhandball Gender is irrelevant-but opportunity for all is NOT. Women were excluded from top orchestras for many years!! That's called 'sexism' in case you didn't know. It may still exist.

  • @jkujawski16 I think Peace's comment partially valid and you miscontrued it--women were excluded by orchestras for many years. That certainly was NOT opprotunity. One wonders if the old boy's club still exists.

  • @drmuller77 they will be.

  • love that second theme--so life affirming and joyous--but joy after adversity--a Brahms specialty.

  • @peacelovebassoon0107 the ladies play just as well!! but I think the VPO 's all make code has been just recently broken--look at newer posts.

  • wow the conductor does look exhuasted

  • Great performance. I love to see that the players have so much fun !!!
