Turning high speed video into real-time speed works pretty well, and the results are much smoother than taking a real-time video and tweaking it in a video editing program to slow it down.

Since most of our high speed is filmed at 600 fr/sec., (20x slower than real time) to turn it back to 1x speed requires several separate renderings. Sony Vegas can only compress a video to 1/4th of its original size. This means a LOT of rendering time, even for a really short clip.

The music is courtesy of Jason Shaw.

  • you get some really good quality videos! are you using iMovie for editing ?

  • Thank you. I use Sony Vegas 8.

  • thats a good idea to show it in real time to get an idea of the actual speed. ill try and think of some more ideas for you.

  • I'm hoping to set up a second camera that records in 30 fps then I don't have to go through all the trouble of rendering the same shot several times. Plus the real time camera will have sound. I need to make a fancy mount so the cameras are side by side.

  • yeah. sound would help too. can you make your high speed camera shoot at 30fps like the other one. if you have them side by side you might be able to make a 3-d video. ill link you a personal message about it

  • That would be interesting. I'm not sure if I could get the settings on each camera to sync up smoothly or not. Maybe if I had two identical cameras. I guess I can use my current tripod and make a wide mount to set the two cameras side by side. I'm sure I could match them up in the editor, add the color, and see if it works. It would be fun to experiment with 3d.
