A short demo from the 2008 Harmoniques meeting at the Lausanne Conservatoire.

Some formal and informal playing as well as a description of the Piano by the builder.

the music begins with the moderato pedal engaged, which makes the sound dark and velvety. At 3:12 the moderato pedal is raised, and we hear the normal voice of the Piano.

This is the same type of Piano used by Chopin during his stay at Vienna, and was also used by Beethoven amongst others.

  • Dear acortot, please can you test for me how many pepetitions per second you can make on a key (maximum) of this forte-piano? It is not necessary to test every key. An average number is sufficient.

    Thanks!

  • @GerardvanR can't do that but you could ask Cristopher Clarke!

  • Really superb - thanks so much for posting this. Is the board above the strings for acoustic effect?

  • @latribe yes, it's to mellow-out the sound, I imagine make the sound less directional, and it's also a dust cover.

some say that it helps amplify the sound a bit, but I've yet to check if that is true in practice

  • The piece played by Sally fortino( first piece) is Diabelli : Sonatine Op 168 Nr 7 -1

  • @guerino07 You can find the sheet music at IMSLP (Google it). Composer: Diabelli; 7 Sonatinas, Op 168. The piece in question is No. 7.

  • The first piece is Anton Diabelli's Sonatina in a minor, Op. 168 No. 7.

  • Someone PLEASE say what the first piece is. I've heard it before, I just can't remember the name. It's seriously going to drive me insane.

  • The better pianofortes of the 1830s and 1840s have an immediacy and colorful quality that I too find preferable to the urbanely consistent rotundity of the modern instrument, although Graf is not my favorite from that era because of it's lack of an element of percussive reediness.
