Tan Faced Prairie Boy

For Him I Sing

A dramatised song-cycle by Simon Pook
to the poetry of Walt Whitman

"In the stillness in the autumn moonbeams
his face was inclined toward me,
And his arm lay lightly around my breast-
and that night I was happy."

In 1860, Whitman wrote the most passionate love-poems from one man to another in the whole of 19th century literature. Eight of
these poems have now been set to music by Simon Pook and, in this dramatised performance directed and devised by Séamus Rea, actors will recreate the men - and women - for whom these poems provided both solace and a voice for emotions which had, until then, been nameless.
