Sibelius has revised this version two times. This is the original, which is much longer...
Video: And, inspired by the calls and the flight of 16 swans, Sibelius created a new world, his fifth symphony, expanding a simple tune to one of the most powerful moments of musical history: a victory of life!
Osmo Vänskä is directing the Lahti Symphony Orchestra.
I much prefer the final version as significant positive changes were made, however this is fascinating and the images are also great. Thanks for uploading it.

@Numboss The lost 8th is a tragic loss. So sad.

Fascinating to listen to. For me this original version seems even more mysterious and majestic than the familiar version. Sibelius chopped out almost 5 minutes of wonderful material. But he was known for intense self-criticism and throwing stuff in the rubbish bin. After all, he tossed his entire 8th symphony into the fireplace. Thanks for posting.

Quite a bit more like the 4th than the final revision, demonstrating that the "break" was not so clean as we'd previously thought. I suppose the later revision was more palatable to the general public of the time, but I really think this is the one to play today..

it s very different with revised version which i knew. i think Sibelius developed it very well. The more interesting thing is comparing both. you can realize Sibelius logic progress. I think he had succeed in making his great sense into superb orchestra.
