Ah wrong.
The "Soap Shoes" are a real pair of shoes, they were put in Sonic Adventure 2 for advertising.

Because SEGA wanted to give Sonic a grinding ability, they gave him shoes made for that purpose.
Thus, the "Soap Shoes" were born.
Although, SEGA must have changed their minds, because in newer Sonic games, he has no Soap Shoes while grinding.

The game would have been much better if they had just stuck with the idea of only having three playable characters. Oh well.
