Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA, uses a cutaway of an AR series rifle to demonstrate what happens when the gun is fired. Most every detail is covered, from the fire control unit to the gas system. This video provides an understanding of the overall function of the rifle and the relationship between its parts.

@uuuuuuu30 AR-15 is the original ArmaLite (the original producer of this gun) designation for that rifle, and M16 is the US military designation. Though if you get across something that's called AR-15, it's probably a civilian market version of that rifle (which are mostly semi automatic)

@SargentBlah 1. Its a play on words. 2. You say AK I say Shotgun. 3.The AR is designed for killing, not for protection...If your going to hunt or assault, you better be smart you better be right and you better not have a gun that misses or youll go hungry...again. I wouldnt use an AR to protect my home with...but I wouldnt want to use an AK either, but I would use an AK on a pile of unsuspecting watermelons from about 10 stories above. Thats about all they're good for these days.
