Why do we not listen to all the advice given about smoking when were young, were doing ourselves great damage and will cripple our lungs or get cancer, In years to come countless teenagers will wish they had heeded the advice they were given about smoking

  • I quit smoking 6 weeks ago. Made it my resolution for 2010:) I am 21 years old and, thankfully, smoked for only 3 years before I came to my senses. Some of my friends did the same and some continue to smoke, and probably will until it kills them. My point is that teenagers can be dumb and pig-headed, but some will listen to what you say and at some point, make the right choice. Thank you for spreading your word of caution and saving at least some lives from being ruined.

  • I started age 21 and stopped last April 2009 smoked for 32 years in all, Im now wishing I had listened to what people used to say to me and stopped when I was young like yourself.

As you say I too was that teenager who knew what was best and was not listening to anyone, but today I really do now I wish I had.

My lungs there is no cure and it's down hill for me, gradually, possibly rapidly?

  • I hope you are well. I've smoked for about 12 years, I'm still relatively young (28), recently I've been having terrible breathing problems. I'd say I 've been a heavy, chain smoker. My question is, how old were you when you first noticed the copd, did it creep up on you or was the onset really sudden? I'm really scared I might have pushed things too far.

  • I stopped smoking last year in April, It was November when this came about, I was feeling out of breath just sitting watching Television. Apparently this is Winter COPD meaning when the weather is cold Ill feel pretty bad

Im 54 now and many folk who smoke find in the winter that their chest tightens up and it hurts when theyre out side in the cold

I hope youre okay as 28 is quite young
