i'm pretty sure this song was made before his mother died. the cd ash wednsday was arranged in chronilogical order and this song is the 1st on the album. the meaning is just a really unfortunate coincidence.
but this is a wonderful and beautiful song.

I was there at the taping, and Dave, Paul and his band *sincerely* had a awesome response to the band. Paul and the guys went crazy for it musically (the bassist was nuts about Nick Kinsey the drummer playing harmonica while he drummed) but it really seemed like Dave was digging it while they played and then relieved that it was the one thing that went perfectly during what had been a mess of the show.
