it's about his mother's death, she died in the plane accident of 9/11. But the lyrics are quite implicit : )

i'm pretty sure this song was made before his mother died. the cd ash wednsday was arranged in chronilogical order and this song is the 1st on the album. the meaning is just a really unfortunate coincidence.
but this is a wonderful and beautiful song.
