Good insight! We must always think in evolutionary terms with respect to our human body. What's the advantage of seeing two dissimilar shades of color in this case?

  • maybe the eye is so advanced that it makes an automatic adjustment of the way a color looks based on the lightness or darkness of the surrounding colors, since color is a factor of light, and same color can look different in different light, so there is no consistent way for brain to ever nail down a specific color, so it recreates the image in your mind anew every time, not based on specific colors, but on the entire color range. Just a thought.
