Good insight! We must always think in evolutionary terms with respect to our human body. What's the advantage of seeing two dissimilar shades of color in this case?
maybe the eye is so advanced that it makes an automatic adjustment of the way a color looks based on the lightness or darkness of the surrounding colors, since color is a factor of light, and same color can look different in different light, so there is no consistent way for brain to ever nail down a specific color, so it recreates the image in your mind anew every time, not based on specific colors, but on the entire color range. Just a thought.
