Show notes: Creative writing. Leave the radio on. Your most important function as a writer or artist is equivalent to SETI listening to the skies. It does not matter where your writing goes so much as that you are in the practice. If you write and write and write you are leaving yourself open for when the great ideas come along. Once I got some story ideas I am still very happy with, I have the practice to shape them and change them. Be willing to change the type of art you do to fit the creative ideas you want to develop. Keep the practice of writing going so you are in the right place, so you are ready, so you are set up to handle the creative ideas that come along. A journal is like a catch all. Collect people, places, storyboard. It's absolutely essential. It's not for one project or one type of writing. It's wonderful when you get great ideas, story ideas, you are really excited about but there are also really good ideas that you think don't create the feeling of ecstatic inspiration and those are worth your developing and writing about them. Take a digital recorder around with you to get ideas down, fresh. The sooner you get an idea down, the better. The 4AM ideas, the in traffic ideas. When you can't write them down use the digital recorder. After a week you can listen to them and add them to specific documents: titles for stories, story ideas.. A good idea is like this gold coin that you can spend again and again and it will never leave you. You spend it and find that you still have it to spend again. A story idea are not complete. They are not a total plot. Collect story ideas, try combinations of them. Spend time working with ones you think will yield you a great story. Ray Bradbury said he wrote the books he would have wanted to read. Your subconscious is an amazing source of brain power, the more you can tap it the more you can find the great ideas. If you are a collector of ideas you subconscious will notice that and start giving you the great ideas. If you write every day, act on the ideas that you do receive, it will give you more ideas, and devote more of it's time and resources the give you creative ideas.
