The Harry Vold Rodeo Company claimed it didn't need to shock horses during the July 2008 Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. The CFD committee banned prods starting this year. Kirsten Vold told the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle:

When the animal will not leave the chute for a rider or stalls, the cowboys move the animal to the next chute or even the one after that and usually it will decide to go.

"The Hot Shot gets sort of a bad rap," Vold said. "But if the public doesn't want to see that, it's a small concession to make for such a great event."

But that more humane approach was down the tubes at Dodge City, the very next date on the Vold Rodeo schedule. Apparently the Dodge City rodeo isn't "such a great event."

Hot-Shot, which makes the electric prod, have stated for years that they don't want their products used in rodeos, and that the prods should NEVER be used on horses because they are too sensitive. Vold Rodeo employees obviously agree. Just look at how they try to hide the prod, and the trouble one guy has when he forgets to hide it.

As usual, the impotent Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association judges just watched and did nothing. Once a PRCA judge, always a PRCA judge.

Looks like SHARK investigators and Harry Vold are going to be seeing a lot of each other during the rest of the season and beyond!

  • One of our major Telephone/Internet Companies here in Australia, Telstra were sponsors of a major Rodeo event but after they were shown the video of calf roping, the Senior Executives were so horrified that they withdrew their sponsorship of the event.

  • @emmijadeable That's good to hear. Hopefully, the rodeo will take that as a wake-up call.

  • I have always been a rodeo fan .... I WILL NEVER GO TO A RODEO AGAIN AS LONG AS I LIVe... i did not know this cruelty happened in a rodeo just to get a good ride

  • @TheChristeye Thanks for your post.

  • Are y'all really getting upset over a horse getting shocked with the hot shot???? Really???? I bet none of you have ever been shocked with one in your lives!!!! I've been shocked numerous times, and it's not any big deal. It just stings a little and gets your attention. I got shocked by them when I was 6 years old and it didn't hurt me that much. And if you'd ever worked cattle or used horses, you'd know that sometimes they are necessary but they DON'T hurt that much.

  • @NKeen1000 Apparently all that shocking short circuited your common sense. You can clearly see from animals' reactions how the prods affect them. No, wait. That would mean you'd actually have to have a brain and open eyes.
