This video highlights various ways to make FCOM run more stable and smoother. I mention installing OBSE, OSR, Fast Exit, the 4GB Patch, and Streamline, as well as cleaning dirty mods.

Links

OBSE: http://obse.silverlock.org/

OSR: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23208

Fast Exit: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22410

4GB Patch: http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php

Streamline: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10400

HOW TO ARCHIVE: Download both Streamline 3.1 Open Beta and Streamline 3.1 Open Beta Patch. Run Streamline 3.1 Open Beta and extract anywhere. Next, run the patch and extract to the same place, replacing existing files when prompted. Now, you should have a Streamline esp and a Streamline folder in the directory you extracted to. Select both of them, right-click, mouse over 7zip, and select "add to archive." Name it what you want and press "Ok." This will create an archived Streamline mod like the one I use in this video.

  • I have spent a lot of time on my own trying to get FCOM working properly but have always encounterd some stability issues or bugs, mostly major ones. I just followed your instructions and everything seems to now work flawlessly. You have done a huge favor, for me and for a ton of people like me. Now I finally have some good elder scrolls action on my hands while waiting for Skyrim! :D

  • @Gummifunzel If you hadn't noticed he fast forwards the recording during the boring stuff like that. You can tell by the way the background sound changes.

  • Any chance of possibly getting an update version of this video? Many of the mods/utilities you mentioned in this video series have been updated. You no longer need to do any tricks to get Wrye Bash and BOSS to work together, Steam users don't need to go through the whole DLC installation thing. Maybe you're waiting for the new versions of FCOM and its parent mods to come out? I know I am before playing, but that might be a while.

  • @Waylend (Continued) So, I right click on Steam in my start menu and run it as administrator. I then procede to go to Library, choose Oblivion, and press PLAY.

Guess what? The game still crashes after I sleep.

What do I do? Do I need to share any more information, such as my BOSS reading? Because I didn't see anything wrong there. I wasn't having this problem when I tested things at the end of video 4, but now that I did the things outlined in video 5, I can't get out of the boat! PLEASE HELP

  • @Waylend I'm almost positive that I'm having the same problem that you described about going to sleep, the game loading, and then going black and crashing to desktop. I also have Windows 7 64bit. The only problem is (and anyone who could give me an answer would be my hero!), I bought the game on Steam. When I try and run obse_loader.exe, I get this message:

"You are trying to use a Steam version of Oblivion. Steam users should launch the game through Steam, not by running obse_loader.exe. (TBC)

  • Once again, Thank you! Additionally, I run Windows 7 64bit and found that if I do not right-click the OBSE loader and select "run as Administrator", FCOM runs fine until I sleep, then crashes to desktop every time. Just an FYI for anyone else who might be pulling their hair out looking for some step they missed or conflict between mods.

  • I would like to thank you also. It took me a while to find this video post, but I am glad I did. All the lengthy text posts often contradicted another install guide or had quite convoluted orders rather than going completely through each step as you did. There were a couple of times I wished you had explained what the esp files were for, but I understand you can't detail everything. My recommendation? Get them to put a link to the videos on the official FCOM install guide to help beginners!

  • Ok, so I've done everything here. Oblivion FCOM has never looked sweeter. Thanks. I tried to install it on my own before I found this video and no matter what I did, I could not get it to work right. It turns out that I didn't know I had to remove certain folders like you did as well as download certain files that didn't come with the main download.

  • Errr can you do one on Deadly reflex 6 please!!!!! if thats not asking too much

  • Believe you me if you can get me to make it work, your one hell of a teacher, excellent pace and glad to see you not being lazy, explaining the whys and wherewithalls

  • Fantastic series of videos. Clear presentations and good pace of delivery. You have saved me a ton of time! Only thing I struggled with was the deselecting and reselecting of multiple options - wasn't always sure I had checked the right ones - difficult to tell which ones you had ticked sometimes. But still a great job - you clearly have an in depth knowledge of the mods.
