West Papua documentary (Part 2) - never screened outside UK

THE AUSTRALIAN AND INDONESIAN GOVERNMENTS DO NOT WANT YOU TO SEE THIS DOCUMENTARY

This is part 2 of an excellent and rare TV documentary about West Papua. It was broadcast in prime time on Channel 4 (UK). A year on from its original screening it still has not been seen in any other country.

Part 2 (6'57"):

• Indonesian Independence Day in Wamena, and the troops march as a show of force. The atmosphere is tense.

• Footage of the violent March 2006 student protest in Jayapura.

• Interviews with some of the protesting students who are now hiding out in the mountains. Students say the reason for the protest was the lack of sharing of profits from the giant American-run Freeport gold and copper mine in Timika.

• A contact gives Evan Williams a video he has shot showing environmental destruction around Freeport.

Stock response... boring. No one ever said Australia was perfect in its dealings with the indigenous population but massive positive steps have been taken in recent years. Indonesia continues to suppress and repress West Papua with no improvement in sight. Its disdain for Papuan traditions, culture and people is reprehensible. There's no reason why backyards can't be cleaned up together, but Indos keep pointing the finger at Australia to take the lead, why? Anyway this is a UK television report!

I'm a journalist from indonesia and i was in papua more than 10 years.lots of papuan was killed by indonesian military and police,there is no Human rights in papua,so up sad for me to see the reality what's happen in papua..big corruptions and killing .massive pollution in Timika papua because of PT.Freeport,but indonesian government just "close" their ayes,and doing nothing,only for "Dirty" money..!!! so sad

Indonesian "reformasi" in Papua is joke. "blacks" are treated like second class citizns in own land there is no justice. my friend recently beaten to death by soldiers watching football game in Sentani, his crime was push soldier who was kicking boy lying on ground. The outcome...the military paid his family funeral. Indo policy in papua is use transmigrasi, etc as part of ongoing indonesian genocide...w/in 10 years black Papuans will be a minority in their own land! Papua merdeka!
