SmallHD just released a new eye cup for the DP4 EVF and I just got mine in the mail. Works great and has some cool new features. I also found a Blue Star eye cushion that fits it.

  • lol at the comments!

Just curious, does the oval Blue Star Large eye cushion work too?

  • @Olphus Not sure, if it did fit it would probably be loose on the longer side. The circle eye cushion is very comfortable. I really like the combination.

  • I don't sell SmallHD or any DSLR gear, I'm just a consumer like the rest of you. But if you think $750 is too expensive for a pro level EVF and field monitor you're going to have a hard time investing in any professional video gear. Do a Google search for the RED Bomb EVF...that thing is over $3K. Quality gear costs money.

  • i would not spend that kind of money on a tube basically. its nice dont get me wrong but its not a neccesssity and therefore should not be overpriced. if it was like something to help you achieve a better in camera look i could see paying a little bit more but 700 bucks for an eye piece when you can basically get a box cut out the opposite sides to make it hollow and it works similar.. just my 2cents

  • @ChrisPintoBean A tube? The DP4 is a 4.3" field monitor with pro features like focus assist, false color and several others. The EVF attachment is well built and has good quality optics. Having a good field monitor can greatly improve the quality of your video. $750 gets you the monitor and EVF attachment. Watch our full review to see all the features.

  • @NextWaveG im not saying its a cool and great product! im just saying you can spend that 700 dollars on something more worth while like say a crane from kessler crane! they start around 700- 800. ive seen some people use 7" tv's as monitors. they're not the best but hey it does it job. the DP4 looks like a quality product that would be really cool to use no doubt, but my opinion is that you can spend 700 bucks on something that REALLY shows better video composition. love your show though

  • @ChrisPintoBean @geyck Sorry but I just get a little frustrated when people harp on the price of quality gear. I spend a lot of my time researching gear and their markets so I feel I have a good understanding when a product is overpriced or competitively priced. That said, I don't think that SmallHD monitors are aimed at the novice crowd. Look online and you'll see them used by DSLR pro shooters up to RED filmmakers...and I wouldn't go on a shoot without mine.

  • Lighten up, Tony. If it had features like focus assist maybe they should have been mentioned. It's not that it's a bad tool, but it's hard to justify buying a $750 monitor when the camera wasn't too much more than that. For people like me just starting out there are many more things I'd buy before this. You don't need to convince people this is a great option to have at a great price. I'm not hating. But I'll probably be making a bunch more DIY stuff before my gear becomes profitable.
