When i was a little kid, i was at a farm and these bird were everywhere. They did the broken wing act and i would follow them and they would lure me far away from the field where a guess their eggs were. It tricked me!

It pretends it has a broken wing to lead you away from the nest/chicks. When we were kids, we used to catch the babies (who run really fast) by going in the opposite direction the parents were going. No, we did not hurt the babies...just looked at them, put them down, and let them go back to mom and dad.
And no, birds don't abandon chicks who have been handled by humans.

Isn't that amazing that even birds know how to trick predators to help save their babies!
