It's kind of nervy of the two little rich southern belles to argue about the punishment of a slave as their black house maids prepare dinner for them in the background. I wonder what the house maids thought about the conversation? This is a great illustration of the Cottonacracy and the attitudes they held.

this is a little naive, they usually whipped slaves on plantations for misbehaving. still a great miniseries though.
