Great rhythm and blues record.
Gordon was more famous for writing songs for other people and enjoyed some moderate success for himself as a singer. Here he is performing his own '"No More Doggin'", covered by many others including Collin James. This disc is a DJ copy of an RPM pressing, hence the white label.

  • this song and "Booted" were recorded at the Memphis Recording Service studio and produced by Sam Phillips, this was before Phillips started Sun Records

  • Wow. Thanks for the additional info. Really appreciate it. Cheers, buddy.

  • This turntable kinda sped this up. I still find it equally good. His voice just sounds... I dunno, younger.

  • Actually, the turntable is calibrated at 78rpm and running at correct speed. I think the problem lies with youtube

  • Can i buy that turntable?

    what make is it?

  • This is a variable speed Lenco. It's Swiss-made, direct drive and long time out of production. Early 1970s. I bought it at a vintage audio store for about $250 Can. Check eBay. The shipping will be a lot because these turntables are very heavy.

  • @laceup1967 Yo. Nice him!!! I remember Gordon record this him for Coxsone Down beat.

  • It's a LENCO player with four speeds 12-33-45-78 which u can use as a pitch, I've got two and they still do a great job.

  • It's a LENCO with four speeds 12-33-45-78 which u can use like as a pitch, if got two and they still workin fine.

  • @nickothompson how is that piano not on the offbeat?

  • Great record...and I really like that turntable!!!

  • There are a lot of songs that influenced the birth of ska, rocksteady & reggae. This song is obviously one of them. I could cite my top five:

Fats Domino - Be My Guest

Roscoe Gordon - No More Doggin

    Billy Stewart Billy's Heartache

Chris Kenner - Sick & Tired

    Dave Bartholomew - The Monkey

Everybody knows this song isn't ska, but the guitar shuffle sounds like that.

    Thanks for posting!!!
