  • Literacy teachers are employing digital tools especially to help English Language Learners (ELL). Besides Dragon NaturallySpeaking, in what other ways can voice recognition software be used to help kids learn?

  • This fascinating work has potential beyond ELL. Analyzing historical sources and writing scholarly essays are the goals of college history classes, too. My students face the same challenge of translating into writing the ideas they verbalize in class. The problem is due in part to lack of note-taking and paraphrasing skills—hard concepts to teach. This technology is exiting, for if it helps students practice those skills, it could be adapted to other settings like college writing centers.
