A Dieter Martini Dob with custom made Rocker Box. Mirror is Oldham Optical, secondary Orion Optics UK. The telescope gives excellent views and is a joy to work with.

  • The rockerbox is custom built (the non-martini part), the guys at tech2000 have really good instruction manuals! A friend of mine made it in a few hours (i'm not that handy)

  • It seems like it would be a pain in the ass to move that in and out doors

  • That rocker box is art.

  • Thanks for the reply I appreciate it! I am wondering, if you might have any more details on the rocker box's construction? Some pictures of how the motor's,gears, shafts, ect and the electronic gear inside and controlling it would sure be helpful. I'm kind of stuck drawing up my plans and there isn't a whole lot out there that have the az motion like yours. Cheers, IC.

  • @martinidieter Thanks for the reply on the tracking, So i guess the only sure way to be able to tarck an object for long exposure photography with a reflector is to get rid of the dob mount and spend major time and money engineering a MASSIVE EQ 1 Milllion mount, LOL OK, maby an EQ20 ought to handle a 14" er. I was looking at the brand new Orion XT12G goto Dob for this reason, but after your comment I know I'm out of luck there too, shame as you get alot of scope for the buck with reflector. IC.

You will get field rotation since it still is an alt-azimuthal mount. If you want to take photographs of longer than a few seconds (depending on the distance to the north), you will additionally require an image rotator attached to the focuser. However, you can observe without having to move the scope all the time and it is possible to make pictures of planets and the moon with a webcam which you afterwards can rotate and stack in an image processing program.

  • Awsome mate! Will this system allow the dob to track an object accurate enough for a decent length exposure photograph?

  • wow cool dob driver
