Come to think of it, I remember the cat grabbing a crow and eating it, and I don't remember there being that vignette blur either. I also remember the cat suddenly growing fangs (from his new face) and eating the body of the kid....maybe I saw a more complete version? =-\

Nope - This is all there is of the "test" version. It was made purely to show financiers what the look and feel of the final film would be like, so it wasn't necessary to film the whole story. The bits you're referring to only exist in the final version.
