Another DC book gets the once-over as Elliott & Jose (or should that be 'Jose & Elliott?') take a look at the BATMAN/DOC SAVAGE special by Brian Azzarello and Phil Noto. Who liked it? Who didn't? Did anyone think it was worth the $4.99 cover price? You'll see soon enough! Oh, and be sure to check out the CCW*TV BLOG where lots of other conversations are going on and Elliott is pissing off Brian Bendis fans! (Sort of.) http://comicculturewarrior.wordpress.com

  • If this is an indication of future "First Wave" from DC, I hope they change the name to "Last Wave". It was so bland and pointless that I thought it was something written by Dwayne McDuffie. Azzarello can do better than this crap. The art was stiff and the colors looked washed out.

Doc Savage needs to be left in the paperbacks. That's where he fits in best.

  • Hm. But what if someone like Matt Wagner gave him a shot? Or Adam Hughes? Or even J. Scott Campbell?

  • @comicculturewarrior If these super talents were attached to Doc Savage, I'd give it a look. But when Azzy admitted only cursory knowledge of Doc, I knew he was unqualified for the job. The slap at "ten guys in their 70's" didn't help either. I'd love to see an Adam Hughes Patricia Savage.

  • Marvel had the property in the 1970s, produced some good looking adaptations.

DC had the property at the end of the 1980s and tried to update him to the modern world and it was bad.

  • Think of a cross between Batman and Indiana Jones, only from the 30's and 40's. I read some of the old Doc Savage stuff, it is pretty tame by today's standards.

  • uhh, who the heck is Doc Savage?? I'm curious now. I'll look him up on wiki, he sounds like a super hero from the dinosaur era.. like kazar or something.

  • i know , i mentioend it previously but some said it didnt surprise them because they felt it was gonna happen.

  • They're cancelling Dollhouse

Sorry to not be on subject, but it bugged me

  • hehehe 300 VIEWS that means a new vid is coming out soon!

  • i liked this book for all the reasons that Elliott stated (in fact i even made it my book of the week on the blog), but that's not to say that i disagree with your criticism's, especially when it comes to the price. Not sure if I'm going to be on board for First Wave or not.
