asleep the snow came flying, from a poem by robert bridges ~ an english poet who was hardly known, influenced by keats, milton and 'prosody', which emphasises the natural breath when speaking poetry rather than how many syllables a poem contains.

And we are so accustomed to homophones in English that they do not
much offend us; we do not imagine their non-existence, and most people
are probably unaware of their inconvenience. It might seem that to
be perpetually burdened by an inconvenience must be the surest way of
realizing it, but through habituation our practice is no doubt full
of unconscious devices for avoiding these ambiguities: moreover,
inconveniences to which we are born are very lightly taken: many
persons have grown up to manhood blind of one eye without being aware
of their disability; and others who have no sense of smell or who
cannot hear high sounds do not miss the sense that they lack; and so I
think it may be with us and our homophones.

@oakmcgowan Hey Oak. We had to put our little 4.3 lb. toy poodle to sleep last night and buried him on a day with the first snowfall this year. I have this tune on a collection of seasonal tunes and it randomly played while we reminisced about the little guy. .....and there is a creek nearby where his little body is now buried...... I feel you.

I usually weep when I hear it. My generally composed wife only succumbs when I tell my story about an old guy burying his dog down by the creek in November as the snow swirls around him.

Sure, it's cruel. But I can't stand to sit there crying alone!
