June 2001
In 2000, gunmen murdered Jean Dominique Montas. He was a straight-talking popular journalist who investigated the corrupt.

He worked alongside his wife Michele Montas at Radio Haiti. Today Michele opens her own radio show with a recording from her husband; "It's 7 o'clock -- good morning everybody". His voice from the grave has become a reminder of how delicate Haiti's stability still is. The young priest Jean Bertrand Aristide was a populist who led an uprising against dictatorship but today he seems to be succumbing to Haiti's same old violent riddles. Having overthrown their slave masters, Haitians became the victims of a chain of dictators. Now Aristide has his own band of loyal street thugs, the Chimeres, who do his bidding in much the same way that Papa Doc's Tontons Macoutes did his. In Haiti's bandit territory we investigate the assassination of Jean Dominique. And later at the gleaming presidential palace Aristide makes a rare appearance. He insists his government is doing all it can - but then why does the investigating judge not even have a fax machine? Will the charismatic Aristide deliver justice, or will he stoke the culture of violence, and use it to become Haiti's next President for life?

  • The American government have always stuck their noses in our business. After we defeated Napolean's military and the Brits and Spinaiards the U.S. conspired with other countries to isolate us from the world. They couldnt afford slaves finding out about us or widespread uprisings would start. U.S. have repeatedly invaded and supported dictators such as Papa Doc and Baby Doc, helping oppress the people. American foreign policy has hurt Haiti all these years. Learn your history people.

  • it's sad to see how ignorant and racist people can still be in the face of devastation.

  • I love Americans, look at all the intelligent comments from them on this video. Forget their government created, funded and aided terrorism not only in Haiti, not only in Indonesia but also in Afghanistan. You support and train monsters, and when they turn on you everyone pretends like they just appeared. Not like I expect Americans to think, they clearly did a lot of thinking when they voted in Bush twice.

  • The only solution in Haiti is to take with our own hands the plait of the last Vodoo priest's guts en case that we do not find any rope , to strangle all the politicians and the elite class.
