This a video of my New Dell XPS 15 with i7 Intel - my delight at first was overcome by the outrageous loud and annoying on/off fan that renders this computer virutally useless to all except deaf people - turn it up and hear my joy! Dell replaced fan and motherboard before admitting they have a design problem and wont give my money back - this apparently "how they are"...avoid at all costs. My girlfriend bought an Apple with the same spec and it is completely silent....how I wish I spent a little more money and done the same...

Also do not listen to anyone saying the bios update solved it. I had tell engineers visit, change motherboards, updated bios... This video was AFTER I tried EVERYTHING. Dell was very good about giving money back (and I bought on ebay) so goid luck if in the same position... But like evryone else, I will never buy Dell again... In fact I will never buy any windows pc again.

I just watched the video again....god I hated that computer. It was like water torture....but with noise! Now I have a Mac Air with a thunderbolt display....and the computer is faster than the dell (solid state drive) and super portable. Combine with the 27 inch thunderbolt display and it's just incredible.

I have this computer and I have the fan problem: 2 sec on, 2 sec off (over and over). Flashed the bios, updated the NVidia drivers. Dell tech came to my house and replaced the motherboard, heatsink and fan assembly. So now it goes fan on 5 sec, off 5 sec, etc. instead of every 2 sec! Plus the tech disconnected the cable to my web cam when he replaced the motherboard. So now--no web cam! Dell wants me to ship it back for repair...I don't trust them to fix it!

This is exactly what happened to me...they cant fix it...although they will try everything to help. This is a deep seated design fault...Its well documented here and on the internet. If you are a gamer and not working in a quite environment - then perhaps you wont notice it... however the randomness and instant on/off will send any nromal person to distraction. I

As a former toshitba user all I can say is this fan issue was a minor problem on this PC. Mi past 2 toshibas were BY FAR worse in all imaginable ways. Im happy with my XPS15. it is surely noisy as hell but I figured its the price of having a laptop with a core power that puts lots of PCs to shame (I use it for heavy 3D + postproduction work so Ive gotta say I invested good money on this machine) When I want to do a sort of ´silent´ work I just switch to Siltent mode limiting procesor to 782 mhz.

Lol I don't know what's more annoying - the fan or you saying "off on off on"!

if you go into the power options and click on advanced options then go into processor power management and system cooling policy change from active to passive.. also you can got into the graphics card setting and set for balanced performance as the 1 gb card use some power.

I have this laptop, It does have this issue of the fan just randomly going off and on, off and on. Mine is generally quiet, it just does this randomly like once in a while. Ive had this laptop for 2 years. The fan thing happens when I browse, or when I played a game like 30 minutes ago.

I realize this is a very late response but what did you do in order to get your money back? I'm really in need of doing that.
