Appalachian Ambassador of the Fiddle Randall Franks, "Officer Randy Goode" from TV's "In the Heat of the Night," performs "John Hardy" with Clawhammer Banjo stylist James Watson of Georgia fiddle band Doodle and the Golden River Grass at the 1991 Valentine's Bluegrass Festival in Rome, Ga. Doodle and the Golden River Grass were the primary performance unit carrying on the Georgia fiddle band tradition from the 1970s-1990s. The group was led by the late John "Doodle" Thrower of Tallapoosa, Ga. James continues to perform locally from his home in Roanoke, Ala. The group appeared at the 1982 World's Fair and made recurring performances for the National Folk Festival and other festivals around the country.
