The subliminal theme was not that Alex's atrocities were irreversile, but on a more generalized level. The human psyche. specifically free will, is not something that can be tampered with or detrimentalized for an extended period of impairment. Although Alex's implementation of classical conditioning works for a brief period of time the entire plotline is allegorical of the rampant drug abuse during the sixties.
