In addition to traditional classroom education, homecoming dances, after school sports programs and spirit rallies, a high school in the heart of California now offers something usually not confined within school walls: a fully-functioning, student-run bank branch.

Merced, California-based County Bank, in partnership with the FDIC and the Fresno Unified School District, opened the first student-run bank branch in California at Fresno, California's McLane High School on September 13, 2007. The Highlander Branch is one of only a few student-run banks nationwide.
