Ao Dai Beauty Queen Pagent 1972

Following secret talks with the North Vietnamese, US National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger announced on the 26th of October 1972, that "Peace is at hand." Though South Vietnam's President Nguyen Van Thieu and others saw the agreement as a capitulation to the North and betrayal of the South, most Vietnamese wanted to believe that Kissinger's words were true. There would be peace in Vietnam at last. It was during this brief flight of fantasy that this Beauty Pagent was held on 27 November 1972. It was sponsored by Teijin, the Japanese manufacturer of polyester fibers used in fabrics for the Ao Dai and other clothing.
