My attempt at Emir Hot's melodic rock solo. This lesson is featured as a guitar lesson at guitarmasterclass.net (GMC). You'll find full backing tracks and tabs there.

I'm using my new Paul Reed Smith Custom 24. It's a 2009 model with Blue Matteo finish (quilted maple top).

I haven't used any amps, the guitar is plugged straight into a Toneport UX1 (yes, pretty lame to match it with a PRS, oh well...), my tone is set in Gearbox.

Enjoy! :D

  • Pretty playing my friend. What's the big deal with the Dorian mode? Don't get me wrong, it sounds great, but I've heard from quite a few people that it's best to learn JUST the Dorian mode. ...any clue why that is?

  • @UglyScukuggly actually, i've never heard this about the dorian mode. usually they advise people to learn the major (ionian) and the minor (aeolian) modes because those are the basic scales. perhaps blues(ish) players like to incorporate the dorian into the blues pentatonic since it gives an extra spice, making it a transition between the major and the minor modes (especially if the 3rd is left out from the pentatonic scale). also, awesome guitarists use it (Gilmour), hence the popularity.

  • one day i wanna be able to play like that

  • @jcscd well, when i recorded this video i had been playing for around 1.5 years, practicing min 3 hours a day. it really just takes dedicated practice and effort.

  • What pickups are in that hoss?

  • @UglyScukuggly really dorian modes are only used heavily in fusion genres and jazz, because they sound excellent over 7th chords and alike chords. Learn your ionian, aeolian, dorian, and phrygian modes and youll be set.

  • isnt dorian D=

  • I'm in pentatonic prison serving a very long sentence. This is the first time I've seen there can be a way out. I've got the guitar ( and hopefully the skill) but I need that amp sound. Can you tell us how you got got it and recorded it please.

  • great job man! can you show me the link for the tab?
