  • One of the best Sieglindes.

  • suspended, in a mezzoforte shade, totally illuminated, a song coming from the heart,...the opposite of Jessye Norman's Sieglinde!

    Thanks Mrs Maier!

  • While I prefer Meier's voice to Norman's, I like both. There's room in the world for different opinions. Running down one doesn't enhance the other.

  • Para mí no hay otra Sieglinde, y si la hubiera no la necesito para nada.

    Waltraud for ever.

  • qué maravillaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • I can't say who is a greater singer - Jessye Norman or Waltraud Meier but have no doubt whose Sieglinde prefer - that of W. Meier! Her Sieglinde is a woman in love that goes through a tragedy losing her beloved one, she is on the borderline whether to surrender or to fight, while J. Norman's Sieglinde seems like a warrier. Waltraud Meier's performance is deeply touching.

  • @NazTb0y wow, what an ignorant, shallow comment. Norman's musicality is world class, and her instrument is one of the greatest, versatile, and most beautiful in the world. I understand that many dramatic sopranos sacrifice tone for volume, but that is CERTAINLY not Jessye. Shame on you.

  • @babs22hh the distinction between Norman and Meier is no small one. With Meier you've got a Germanic Fee, now living in Munich, clearly born to sing this stuff, and with Norman you've got a broad woman born with loud pipes. If you like volume, go for Norman; sublimity, Meier. I don't think fat women sing opera better than beautiful ones. In fact, I think a more beautiful-looking instrument tends to sound better as well. WM is a babe, and she sings sublimely. Norman's just fat and loud...

  • She has the perfect voice for this role... so powerful but she manages to keep the line so fluid. A truly beautiful soprano!

  • Jessye is so much more dramatic sounding here than Meir... Meir's diction is lost here a bit which is understand considering how high the phrase is for a mezzo soprano i think i prefer jessyes strong diction and line to Meir's sense of line. Both are standouts! i am partial to Jessye!

  • Weak. UnGerman. Boring.

  • Beautiful! Methinks her portrayal was partly inspired by Jessye Norman's.
