The issue here isn't whether this is "brutality" or who was starting the fights. The issue is that out Government chose to suppress the people's ability to voice its opinions, in order to please the United States.

Andrew Murray, Chair of Stop the War Coalition, said, "We condemn the decision of the British government and police to deny the British public the right to peacefully demonstrate while acting on behalf of the criminal administration in the USA. We also denounce the brutal conduct of many police officers towards demonstrators in Whitehall. This evening's events highlight both the growing menace to freedoms in Britain and also the fear that George W Bush and Gordon Brown have of being held to account for their disastrous war policies."

Without the right to peacefully protest, what do we have left?

But it was the closure of Whitehall by Scotland Yard and its implications for civil liberties that provoked the strongest feelings. A Stop the War spokesman, Andrew Burgin, said: "What would the Americans think if Gordon Brown turned up with a 700-strong entourage who told them to close down central Washington? It is the sort of high-handed attitude that has been shown by Bush all along."

  • Perfectly acceptable behaviour from police officers.

For those who brand this as a 'peaceful' protest: It seems as if the only opposition during this rally were the police, and they are not going to have started any form of violence or intimidation. The police aren't there as a representative of the government, they are normal people who have chosen a different career path to other people, and nothing else.

These protesters aren't fighting police for a cause, they do it out of boredom.

  • i would agree with you there, thank god your not a person who just shouts "fuck the police". unfortunatly some police man get into that line of work to abuse their power and feel dominant. Most however do it to protect people and serve justice.

'Protesters being agressive towards Police, Police fight back.

  • This protesting seems far from peaceful. It seems quite verbally agressive and intimidating. A peaceful protest should be peaceful in nature but a good portion of the protestors appear to be intentionally provoking/goading the police and when that doesn't work, physically pushing against them. The only place in this video where the policeman strikes a protestor is where he is literally pushed. The police seem completely professional at all other times.

  • What is the reality of a 3rd world war of some kind within the next 50 years. THe wierd thing is the world is practically at war at the moment.

  • the protesting is all wrong! feds won't take none of you seriously because your all shouting like uneducated rebels lol

  • @columnsx The duties of a policeman are to enforce the law via financial or criminal punishment and protect the people, hence the word 'Police', clearly derived from 'Polis'. If a person is in the act of breaking criminal law, then a police man must act to restrain this man from doing any harm unto the people. The police men shown in the above video clearly aren't doing "thier jobs", as you call it, but are suppressing public opinion embodied in the presented people.

    Ergo police brutality.

  • Everything is brutality to you losers....
