In this video, the Archers-Friend.com team replaces a tie rod end and idler arm on our 1997 Chevy 1 ton CrewCab 4x4 vehicle that we pull our bow hunting toys with. It shows how to save a bundle by doing it yourself (DIY). Tips and tools are also shown.

  • I'm not a Wal Mart employee but you can't really blame Wal-Mart for some play in your steering components. That play takes years and years of neglect and wear. Missing one grease point here or there would not be the "cause".

    I can and do blame Walmart's dudes and dudets for NOT taking the time to grease ALL fittings. The vehicle only had about 35-40 thousand miles one it when I started maintaining it myself. The ONLY neglect and abuse came from NOT being greased and Walmart was the ONLY place that had been doing the oil and grease jobs. Not hard to place blame where it belongs in this case.

  • Taking it to wal-mart is just a bad idea in general. Those guys get paid very low wages are usually new due to high turn over and are overwhelmed by the massive intake of customers a day. No offense. But don't go to McDonalds and expect to get the best Lasagna you've ever had.

    BTW those inner ones are a real pain if you're in a hurry and you don't have the right attachment.

  • I just did an Idler arm replacement on a '98.

    Alternative to wrenching on the idler bolt from underneath. Seperate the lower end with the pickle fork. Take out the idler pivot. There are three large bolts thru the frame.

    Once you have the Idler pivot and the idler arm unit seperated, you can use an impact wrench on the nut. The nut is a locking nut and is a pain to take off. To put it back on, I used an impact and a regular (non locking) nut to drive the new idler arm onto the post.

    All i Can say is your a worthless POS. .. 1 don't think Walmart cares.... it shows. A properly maintained system can last indefinitely. These front end parts are some of the most Heavy duty components on a Truck. Walmart will have to prove that all their techs are properly trained on all vehicles including 4WD trucks and explain all points of lubrication. Bet you can name and locate all the points of lube on this or another truck. Your an Ass, loser, untrained, ungrateful wannabe!
