Title: Solar Jetman Hunt for the Golden Warpship
Platform: Nintendo Entertainment System
Year of North American Release: 1990
Developer: Rare
Publisher: Tradewest

I can't believe it's been more than a year and I still hadn't gotten around to uploading any 8-bit games. That changes today with one of the very first games I have ever owned and played.

I was 3 years old when my parents picked up a Nintendo Entertainment System for me and my brother. The 3 games we bought were Super Mario Bros., Life Force, and Solar Jetman: Hunt for the Golden Warpship. I played the hell out of all 3. My parents later got rid of my Nintendo Entertainment System and all of the games I had owned (which increased a lot from the initial 3 obviously). I was upset by this and it took me a very long time before I could remember the name of this game.

Luckily about 3 years ago I found it.

Anyway, here it is. I absolutely love this game. This is one of the few times I've played it since I picked it up again, but it felt so good to play. The goal of the game is to explore the surface of planets in your little space pod while looking for parts, fuel, and treasures to return to your ship. What makes it fun is the gravity factor... you have to use your thrusters wisely if you want to survive long enough to find treasures. There's also realistic weight to the objects you may find. After leaving a planet in your ship you're given the option to upgrade your ship's abilities.

Did I mention the game was developed by Rare? Yep, the same people who did Battletoads, Marble Madness (NES), Snake Rattle 'n' Roll, Cobra Triangle, and many more classics for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

Strangely immersive and just a great overall game. Highly recommended.
