  • Certain mistakes are covered up by distortion (like clipped notes or uneven dynamics) while others are covered up by playing with a clean tone (like extra strings ringing out, and "straying notes" like israeliguitar mentioned). Practicing a lick both clean and with distortion will allow you to see "both sides," if you will, of the aspects of your playing.

  • @eightequalsequalsdee I'd go with what you like tonally, both can be great... I like before cause I like to over-saturate my distortion/fuzz/overdrive. After, you can control the dynamic
