In this Video I give a very basic introduction to Ubuntu and mostly compare it to Microsoft Windows. This is in order to help make sense to Windows users who are completely new to Ubuntu. The version of Ubuntu I'm demonstrating is 9.10

  • I like everything in your video the clock ticking included.

Your voice is very pleasant and you speak slow so we

foreigners can understand you very well. Besides all the

information is very interesting. Thank you very much.

    Best Regards,

    mario.

  • Thanks Mario

  • sven.. is that you?..

  • i mean in backtrack,linux...

  • how can i open my flash drive and then copy it in my desktop,i'm obviously new in linux, ubunto.

  • @ubuntuhal My sentiments exactly. A friend of mine who is a Mac user recently had to start using a Windows XP based laptop. He was getting extremely frustrated so I instructed him via phone on how to download and install Ubuntu 9.10. He is much happier now because simplicity and security was a big concern for him. I'm a hardcore PC gamer but I have a lot of respect for what Canonical has done with Ubuntu.

  • Who needs ubuntu? Ubuntu is beast. I have ubuntu, mac, and 7 machines. I love them all.

  • Yes, let's :P I'd rather use Linux than WIndows, that's for sure!

But I so much rather use Mac OS X then Linux again :P But it was fun having a linux box "to play with" on the side for as long as it worked... :) Hehe..

  • Let's just conclude that both Linux and Mac are way better that piece of crap in MS know as Windows, even though that Linux isn't anywhere as user friendly and works as well just Mac it is still better than having to deal with real crap Windows.

  • Totally agree.. I also understand your windows statement.. Windows is very all over the place and heavy to run and insecure too.. Like I said, I have never had good experience when trying linux (unfortunately, 'cause I really wanted to like it). I've tried everything from Sabayon to Ubuntu to Mandriva to Fedora.. Everything stopped working or crashed hundreds of times or just didnt work at all.. For you it works, and thats great, but unfortunately for me, it let me down many times...

  • @christermadsen I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I'd consider myself to be an average pc user and I can do practically anything I could do with a Windows box. Cant speak for a mac as I've never used one. Ubuntu isnt perfect, far from it but I've had far less problems with it on the same pc than I have with xp, vista or 7. Some things are not so easy to accomplish on Ubuntu as compared to a windows box but its getting easier.

  • I didn't say I dislike open source! I love open source! But I don't think anyone has managed to get Linux to work good enough for "normal" people to use it, even though Ubuntu are heading in the right direction.. So I say, its not really an option for the average user (most people) or even experienced PC users to use Linux.. Even though it seems spot on when I see people like you use it... If you bumped into problems with every single car you tried, would you buy it and use it as your main car?
