This was taken at a book reading that I went to this weekend in DC. My friend writes her own children's stories and self-publishes them.

All of the stories are about India, food and animals. They are really great. So, she gave a quick talk and a reading of one of her stories called "Kairis" at Nirvana---a vegetarian Indian restaurant in DC.

It was a lot of fun and we got to taste Karies and a lot of other very yummy vegetarian Indian food.

My description of people eating Kairis:

The lady took a small bite of the karis. At first she nodded to show that it was pretty good. Then her expression slowly changed. Her cheeks turned a light pink as she sucked in her lips and slightly squinted her eyes as the sweet fruit became bitter. She attempted to smile and maintain her composure, looking a little embarassed by her reaction. She laughed and said it was good.
