Michael Scheuer - 20+ year veteran of the CIA and former head of its Bin Laden unit - comments on the fallacious belief of US foreign policy establishment that (a) Muslim nation states can be remade in American image, and (b) the hate of American way of life drives Islamic terrorism.

  • I agree with Scheuer that it is extremely foolhardy on part of the US establishment to assume that they can remake nation states in America's image. Western civilization has taken thousands of years to evolve. The US alone has had several hundred years to develop a unifying culture and a corresponding system of governance. How can the US expect to simply export its governance and cultural model to another people, especially when those people have fresh memories of European Imperialism?

  • The entire notion presupposes that the US is interested in remaking Muslim countries in the image of the US in the FIRST PLACE

    They are not. If the Muslim world was free instead of run by US backed dictator puppets, they would control their own oil, and use its resources to quickly turn the middle-east into the new Europe with the insane natural wealth in that region

    It's nonsensical to discuss "spreading democracy", when it's nothing but an excuse for aggressive imperial power plays
