A 2-minute highlight from our trip to Muir Woods National Monument. Muir Woods is part of Golden Gate National Recreation Area on California's rugged Northern Coast within an hour of San Francisco. Home to California's coastal redwoods, the tallest trees on the planet, this sanctuary of old growth redwoods was set aside by President Theodore Roosevelt 100 years ago. "This is the best tree-lovers monument that could possibly be found in all the forests of the world," declared conservationist John Muir when describing the majestic coast redwoods of Muir Woods.
Muir Woods is also home to Banana Slugs, North Americas largest land mollusk.
Muir Woods is explored in Finley-Holiday Films' "California Parks & Monuments DVD" as is available on location at Muir Woods National Monument and from www.finleyholiday.com.
The tallest tree at muir woods is at about 265 ft ( @ bridge 2 ) I thought it was interesting what you said about those other trees so i googled them and this is what i found...Ponderosa pine-Southern Oregon ( Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest 268.73 ft....worlds tallest pine.....worlds tallest western hemlock 271.75 ft....and in SEP-2006 in Humbolt county-nor cal - Redwood National Park--the worlds tallest tree was confirmed a coastal redwood it stands at 379.1 ft. Something most Muir Woods visitors don't realize, is that the world's tallest Pine in Oregon and world's tallest Hemlock in Humboldt county, CA, stand taller than every coast redwood in Muir Woods. The farther north, the bigger and taller the redwoods become. The gemstone of all redwood parks may be Prairie Creek. But the 10 largest coast redwoods are in Humboldt Redwoods SP, Prairie Creek Redwoods SP, Redwood National Park, and Jedediah Smith Redwoods SP. And with virtually no crowds.

This is beautiful! Each of these clips alone would have been brilliant, but together they make something truly special. :)
