.. I agree (@ kamilacpn) the film was/is underrated. such subtle, finely etched performances.. and what a poetic, lyrically beautiful direction/interpretation (John Curran) of the Maugham novel- !

and the idea of a husband working to 'make' his wife fall in love with him after they are married- may be old-fashioned and unheard of in this fast-moving day and age- but I find it incredibly moving. Norton's quiet intensity burns-- marvelous portrayal.

Watched it with my mom on a whim. Neither of us had heard anything about it before. It is a beautiful movie. This is my favorite love scene ever.

it is the best love movie i think because it is realistic.all the others have incredible lovers but i think love is not like that they told.love is like the way this movie told.and edward and naomi they are awesome.after johnny depp edward norton my favorite actor after him christian bale comes.
