It wasn't the FIRST interview she did. In fact, the interview I'm talking about was when she did her first concert (on tape). It was during that concert interview that she said that her mother was an opera singer and that's what inspired her to do the high notes. I'm not making this up.

She looks a lot like her daughter Mya Rudolph at the .39 second mark.
