The health benefits of lemons are many. They are immune enhancers, are cleansing to the liver, they aid in digestion, they are antibacterial, high in Vitamin C, calcium, magnesium and are hydrating and refreshing.

Health Benefits of Lemons

Hi! Carol Fitzgerald here again from www.veganrecipesforhealth.com. I'm here to let you know that getting old does not have to mean getting sick. Our bodies are wonderful machines, as you know, and given the right foods can actually stay healthy. Welcome.

Well, today....it's a hot day in Fl. What day isn't hot though here? And I'm going to show you many health benefits to lemons. I want you to go on my website to see the health benefits but I just want you to see what I do with lemons everyday.

I pulled into my drive the other day and saw that my lemon tree was pregnant with lemons.

Oh my gosh. This is just from one branch actually. I did do two branches but I gave a lot of them away. And these are not ripe yet, so this actually is one from the store. And organic. I buy everything organic. And these are organic too from my yard.

So anyway. These lemons are.....Oh my gosh I was so happy to get these. And the tree has many, many more on them. I had it propped up the other day but I had to get these from the low branches or I was going to have them too high and I wouldn't have been able to reach them.

So anyway, take your lemon and roll it in the palm of your hand on your counter. And that actually releases the juices. So get it nice and soft and pliable. You cut it in half. Sometimes I'll have one and sometimes two....(glasses of lemon juice, that is) This is my handy, old-fashioned juicer that I absolutely love.

You place it, the lemon here, and push and squeeze, back and forth, back and forth, until you get all the lemon juice out of there.

In the meantime, this little rim catches all the pulp and seeds. And you've got yourself plain juice. I keep a bottle of water like this in the refrigerator like this. I pour it in and this is my drink of the day.

It's refreshing, again on a hot FL day. It's hydrating, it's cleansing and it's alkaline. Now you wouldn't think that because lemons, oranges and citrus fruits are acidic. That's a mouthful. But once it gets inside your body, it becomes alkaline, the way your body processes and metabolizes it.

So here's to good health! Clink! It's not real sour. You might have to get used to drinking this as opposed to plain water. But it's really better for you.

And I don't put lemon juice in my water when I'm in a restaurant. I saw a video once on that, one of the news channels did it. They are loaded with bacteria. Also, wash your lemons before you cut into them, so you're not spreading any dirt or whatever. Again, mine are organic, and I don't worry about that too much, but I still wash them.

My daughter was drinking water here one day and she mistakenly picked up my glass instead of hers and she had a surprise. Now if you're not expecting it, it can taste not so great. But if you're expecting that it might have a lemony taste to it, then it shouldn't be a problem to you. And again, it's very healthy. Delicious!
