Actually, most Polynesian dances where the women primarily use their arms in gestures, rather than movements, and their hips do most of the dancing, rather than their legs or footwork. Men, however, squat and open their legs in and out in a diamond shape. But this is all just motifs and there is always variation, just like in any other type of dance. For example, normally in ballet women wear tutus. However, the NYC Ballet doesn't always adhere to this traditional style.
